State plans panel to study quota for Dalit sub-castes
The State Council of Ministers at a meeting on Thursday decided to constitute a one-man commission to look into the demand for introducing a system of internal reservation within the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Briefing reporters after the meeting of Council of Ministers, which had been convened to thank the ministers for the impressive victory of the Congress in the Legislative Council polls, Social Welfare Minister A Krishnappa said various options such as providing internal reservation based on the population of different sub-castes would be examined by the proposed commission.
While the total quantum of reservation would not alter, each Dalit sub-caste may be allocated certain amount of reservation, the minister said while terming the decision as a historic one.
There was a demand by these communities to introduce such a system so that there would be equal opportunities for all the Dalit sub-castes. The details such as who should head the one-man commission and the terms of reference are yet to be decided, the minister said. Already some of the states have introduced such a system of internal reservation for Dalits.
The meeting also decided to release Rs 19 crore towards reimbursement of scholarships of students belonging to SC/ST and backward communities.

TN: Equal Justice Forum formed
Chennai, Nov. 27. (UNI):
Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) President K Krishnasamy today formed the 'Samaneedhi Peravai' (Equal Justice Forum), comprising 16 Dalit organisations, to protect the interests of Dalits and the minority community people in the State.
Announcing this to newspersons here, Dr Krishnasamy said the Forum would fight, among other things, for the withdrawal of cases foisted against Dalit people, holding elections to Papapatti and Keeripatti panchayats reserved for Dalits and proper registration of cases under the Untouchability Act.
The Forum would launch a series of statewide agitations for these causes and the first such agitation, a token fast, would be organised here soon, he said.
Makkal Desam Paraiyar Peravai, Ambedkar Makkal Kazhagam, Ambedkar Peravai, Ambedkar Indian Democratic Movement, Dalit Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and Ambedkar Makkal Katchi were among the Dalit outfits in the newly created forum.
